Tribal Voters Choose Several New Leaders

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, members of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation elected the Board of Trustees and General Council officers who will lead the tribe for the next two years.  

The CTUIR’s governing body, the Board of Trustees will have six new board members.

Kat Brigham is the new Chair of the Board of Trustees, unseating Gary Burke.

One candidate retained his seat on the BOT: Vice Chair Jeremy Wolf. 

Sandra Sampson is the newly elected Treasurer, unseating Doris Wheeler.  Sally Kosey is the newly elected Secretary, defeating Aaron Ashley.  Four new Board Members at Large were elected - Corinne Sams, Armand Minthorn, Jill-Marie Gavin and Boots Pond.

Lindsey X. Watchman was voted in as General Council Chair, unseating Willie Sigo IV.  Michael Ray Johnson is General Council Vice Chair, Shawna Gavin General Council Secretary, and E. Thomas Morning Owl will continue as the interpreter.

The elected officials take office Dec. 4 in a 9:00 a.m. ceremony at the Nixyaawii Governance Center.  The public is invited to attend. Following are the unofficial election results showing the number of votes received.  The winners are identified with an asterisk, in bold.  The certified results will be completed in accordance with the Election Code.
