Mission, OR – The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) held a special election for the position of Board of Trustees Secretary on February 7. Voting took place at the Nixyaawii Governance Center; 455 General Council members cast their votes.  The Election Commission has announced N. Kathryn Brigham won the election with 150 votes. 

A swearing-in ceremony will take place on Monday, February 13 at 8:00 a.m. in the Nixyaawii Governance Center.  Chief Judge William Johnson will conduct the ceremony with remarks by Chairman Gary Burke to follow.

The Treaty of 1855 in the Walla Walla Valley established the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.  The Tribes formed a constitutional government in 1949 that calls for an elected Board of Trustees and General Council Officers.  The next general election for all positions will be held in November 2017.
