2022 COLUMBIA RIVER BELOW BONNEVILLE DAM

CEREMONIAL BANK ONLY FISHERY

Pursuant to chapter 2 of the Fish & Wildlife Code of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, the Fish & Wildlife Commission has the authority to establish regulations for the Umatilla ceremonial, subsistence and commercial fisheries. Pursuant to that authority, the Fish & Wildlife Commission adopted the following regulations on April 27, 2022 for the Subsistence-Only Bank Fishery below Bonneville Dam. Catch in this fishery will be added to Zone 6 totals and count towards the US vs. Oregon tribal harvest allocation. 

HOOK AND LINE FISHERIES DOWNSTREAM OF BONNEVILLE DAM

AREA: A Columbia River area bounded by a deadline marker on the Oregon bank approximately four miles downstream from Bonneville Dam Powerhouse No. 1 in a straight line through the western tip of Pierce Island, to a deadline marker on the Washington bank at Beacon Rock up the river to a point 600 feet below the Bonneville dam, but excluding the following four areas: (1) between markers located 150 feet upstream and 450 feet downstream from the mouth of Tanner Creek out to the center of the Columbia River, during the period August 16 to October 15; (2) inside the south navigation lock at the Bonneville Dam from a marker on the western-most point of Robins Island to a marker on the Oregon mainland shore; (3) from Bradford Island below Bonneville Dam from the south shore between the dam and a line perpendicular to the shoreline marker at west end of riprap and from north shore between fishway entrance and a line perpendicular to the shoreline marker 850 feet downstream; and (4) from Robins Island below Bonneville Dam downstream to a line perpendicular to the shoreline marker on mooring cell. DATES: 5 AM to 11:59 PM on Sunday May 1, 2022.

GEAR:  Only one rod reel with hook and line per person.

LIMIT:  Limit to only 5 fish per CTUIR tribal elder. 

SPECIAL FISHING DAYS FOR ELDERS: The fishery Sunday, May 1, 2022 shall be open only for tribal member elders and those who are legally handicapped (an elder is considered 55 years).  Other people may assist elders, handicapped persons, transport gear or fish but may not engage in fishing.

SUBSISTENCE ONLY:      Salmon (all species), steelhead, shad, yellow perch, bass, walleye, catfish and carp may be retained for subsistence only unless otherwise established through Compact.  Sturgeon retention is prohibited; sturgeon may not be sold or retained for ceremonial or subsistence purposes.
