Ceremonial fishers have advised Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) officials to anticipate the first Spring Chinook on Tuesday, April 23.
The Fish & Wildlife Commission (FWC), along with Department of Natural Resources’ Fisheries and General Council Interpreter Thomas Morning Owl, will host this year’s First Fish Ceremony at 3:15 p.m. in the Nixyáawii Community School Commons.
The Office of Executive Director is expected to invite CTUIR staff to attend the event.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to include our students, provide words and information for our youth. We want to continue to encourage our youth to stay engaged in our way of life and to preserve, protect, and enhance our foods,” CTUIR Board of Trustees Member at Large Corinne Sams said.
