Proposed Timíne Way North Development

2022 will be a busy year for construction on the Umatilla Indian Reservation. Construction of the Timíne Way North apartments will start this spring on the site northeast of Yellowhawk Tribal Health Care Center and Nixyáawii Education Center.  The project will include 25-30 studio, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units designed for market-rate working professionals. Construction should be completed in spring of 2023.

The Housing Development Team selected the design-build team last November, which includes Chervenell Construction, Cole Architects, and Akana, a native-owned engineering and planning firm. The Board of Trustees approved the contract and preliminary site information and design constraints work is underway.  There will be opportunities for the community to provide input into the design throughout the month of January. You can review the proposed designs and leave your feedback on our survey located here.  The same project design information will also be on display in a number of locations around the reservation including the Nixyáawii Governance Center, Mission Market, and Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center.

The Timíne Way North apartments will help fulfill long-needed housing that was identified in the Tribes’ Comprehensive Plan and Housing Strategy Plan. Those plans ask for a range of housing options from small studio apartments, moderate home site development - such as Nixyáawii neighborhood also planned for 2022 - all the way up to larger home sites in future development projects. Plans to drastically increase the housing stock in the next few years comes from the leadership and direction of current and former Board of Trustee Priorities through policies found in the Comprehensive Plan and Housing Strategy Plan.
