Historically, the Támayčt, Earth Oven, has been common practice for the Umatilla Tribe and surrounding tribes. The art of using an earth oven has dwindled due to modernization. As we are planning for the next century we are hoping we leave legacies like this Támayčt documentary for all to enjoy.
This documentary covers the process of:
•building and preparing an earth oven,
•gathering and preparing the traditional foods,
•cooking the food and the final product.
All steps in the process are defined to the best of our knowledge.
