Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Umatilla Tribal Fire Department(UTFD) to provide emergency response services, In a timely manner, to the residents and businesses located within the boundaries of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (UIR) and UTFD ambulance Service Area (ASA) The UTFD provides the very best emergency medical/fire service to protect human resources of the Reservation from injury or damage due to fire or related hazards, while placing adequate emphasis on fire protection and fire prevention. It is the goal of the UTFD to support and compliment the mission of the Board of Trustees of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
About us
Umatilla Tribal Fire Department (UTFD) provides comprehensive, all-hazards emergency services to the Umatilla Indian Reservation and surrounding areas. UTFD’s services include fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical services, and hazardous materials response throughout its jurisdiction.
The department’s combined Fire and Ambulance Service covers approximately 582 square miles, an area larger than the Umatilla Indian Reservation itself. UTFD is staffed by 14 full-time employees, including the Fire Chief, Administrative Assistant, Captain/Paramedics, Firefighter/Paramedics, and Firefighter/EMTs. Volunteer firefighters enhance the department’s response capabilities.
Beyond emergency response, UTFD remains actively engaged with the community throughout the year through outreach, education, and preparedness efforts.
UTFD is committed to professionalism, readiness, and responsiveness. Through ongoing training, investment in modern equipment, and strong partnerships with local, county, state, and tribal agencies. UTFD continues to protect lives, property, and natural resources across the Umatilla Indian Reservation and neighboring communities.
